Mission

BEF’s mission is to assist financially disadvantaged individuals in Atlantic Canada, especially Nova Scotia, obtain education and employment thereby enhancing their life outcome and society in general.  BEF does not make grants directly to individuals but rather through recognized institutions organized to achieve this outcome.

Philosophy

The goal of BEF is to create lasting, meaningful impact through programs that empower and transform lives.  We prioritize initiatives in Atlantic Canada where we can make a tangible difference, with a particular focus on individuals in grades nine and above.  Our commitment to inclusivity drives us to ensure that our programs and bursaries are open to all, fostering diversity and equal opportunities.

We support two types of initiatives:

  1. Financial aid through bursaries to make post secondary education more accessible; and 

  2. Programs that challenge and change attitudes towards post secondary education.
